Notes

Planned changes from Juniper Peacock Socks:

○ Love the look of the longer contrast toes - definitely keep doing these. Could even be a few rounds longer - these were ten rounds after last increase row, try 14 next time.

○ Did stripe slip stitch heel on Juniper Peacock Socks, but prefer look and feel of eye of partridge, so back to that this time.

○ Leg/ankle was a little baggy after washing - maybe reduce leg from 72 to 68 or reduce number of stitches increased in the gusset? This time decrease leg to 68, gusset decreased from 17 to 16 stitches.

○ The leg section of Juniper Peacock Socks are a bit shorter than I would ideally have (44 rounds) (though will gain another 4 rounds by increasing length of toes) - plenty of contrast leftover though, so have to think about how to use it - maybe a band of contrast colour immediately before end of foot, as this is the bit that has the most st therefore most yarn…

Yarn:

○ Loved photos I’d seen of this colourway but was disappointed when I saw it in person - colours more muted than I’d realised, and contrast (Cardamom) more of a dingy green than the dusky khaki I’d expected. Getting more used to it as I go along however - with a bit of luck I’ll love it by the time I’m finished!
Finished the feet of both socks, and have definitely come round to the colours. Will probably match much better with the clothes I wear than some of the brighter colourways, and my daughter tells me they look like ‘grown up’ socks!

○ Loved the feel of both balls, soft but not so soft you know it’ll develop holes with a little wear. Both slightly overweight - Passion Fruit Cooler was 103g, Cardamom was 101g (both weighed without the ball band).

Needles:

○ Have been using 2.5mm dpns despite ball band recommending 3.25mm, but after washing fabric still feels a teeny bit loose - maybe use 2.25mm for the foot next time?

Changes for next time:

○ Try 2.25mm instead of 2.5mm.

○ Look into anatomical toe - find a toe up example/tutorial.

Fleegle heel

Pattern:

○ Cast on 2AAT toes on 2.5mm circs (14 st per needle, Turkish Cast on, inc 1, 3, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, all, 1). Knit on to 2.5mm dpns after increases (10 more rnds for long toes) then work sections on each sock in turn.

○ 36 rnds before first increase, then lifted inc from within gusset at heel edge. Inc every other round, 17 stitches for each gusset. Round out heel with 4/8/12 stitches W&T before eye of partridge heel.

○ End heel flap when 3 stitches left on each side, swap to opposite needles before SSK to avoid holes. Double check stitch count after final 2 decreases - should be 72. Knit for between 42 and 48 rnds(depending on stripe pattern and colours) before switching to contrast yarn for a single round before 2x2 ribbing for 20 rnds. JSSBO.

○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○ ○

Plan:

● Day one - wind yarn, cast on & increase toes.(1)
● Day two - switch yarn, knit to start of gusset increases.(2)
● Day three - knit sock one to wrap and turns.(2)
● Day four - knit sock two to wrap and turns.(3)
● Day five - wrap and turns on sock one and start decreases.(4)
● Day six - wrap and turns on sock two and start decreases.(4)
● Day seven - finish decreases on both socks.(4)
● Day eight - knit legs.(1:5, 2:5/6)
● Day nine - knit ribbed cuffs.(6)
● Day ten - weave in ends! (6)

Working Notes:

Long toes, 68st/72 rnd foot, 68st leg. Main colour passion fruit cooler, contrast cardamom.

○ Toes cast on, knitted ten rounds after increases before switching to main yarn by holding together for 3 stitches
○ 36 rnds before starting gusset increases
○ 17 st inc for each gusset
○ eye of partridge heel, spot which purl row by bumps - need to purl into the bigger bumps when doing eye of partridge
○ stopping leg based on weight of remaining yarn, bearing in mind colour rhythm
○ 20 rnds cardamom then jssbo

After wearing

○ Still really pleased with the look of the longer contrast toes, but wouldn’t make them much longer than these. These are ten rounds after increases, might try 12 on the next pair.
○ The 68 stitch 72 round foot is about right on 2.5mm - they’re snug when I first put them on, but not uncomfortably so, and loosen a little through the day.
○ Reducing the leg to 68 stitches instead of 72 seems fine too - not tight or digging in to my chunky legs but also not baggy and slipping down.
○ The leg length is much better on these than the last pair - these are about 60 rounds, then 20 for the ribbed cuff. They’re long enough that they can crumple a round my ankle a bit without feeling as if there’s no sock left!
