Notes

Each sock weighs 34g, still 2x25 and 2x17g blue lagoon remaining. 12 extra rnds after toe increases, then 36 more before 1st gusset increases.

Planned changes from Cardamom Cooler Socks:

○ Love the look of the longer contrast toes - definitely keep doing these. Could even be a few rounds longer - those were ten rounds after last increase row, try 12 next.

○ Fleegle heel if I’m feeling brave.

○ The leg section of Juniper Peacock Socks are shorter than I would ideally have (44 rounds) (though will gain another 2 rounds by increasing length of toes) - plenty of contrast leftover though, so have to think about how to use it - maybe a band of contrast, maybe a rnd of juniper every other end on the leg?

Yarn:

○ Love the feel of WYS 4ply, both on my hands while I’m knitting it up and on my feet when I’m wearing them.

○ Hoping that the more structure/less colours of the cocktail shades as opposed to the country birds will mean no blobs of colour where they don’t belong!

○ While the Juniper(157) looks great with Blue Lagoon(831) it isn’t actually the same colour as the darkest (or any other) blue from it. I prefer proper matching shades, but it’s close enough that no one looking at the socks would notice. I think when it’s that close your brain kind of tells you they match even if they don’t!

Needles:

○ Have been using 2.5mm dpns despite ball band recommending 3.25mm, but after washing fabric still feels a teeny bit loose - I should probably switch to using 2.25mm for the foot but I’m a wimp and the idea of having to work out how many stitches/rounds because switching needle sizes makes me nervous…

Changes for next time:

○ Look into anatomical toe - find a toe up example/tutorial. Try and cross this with the 12 round toes I’ve used here.

Pattern:

○ Cast on 2AAT toes on 2.5mm circs (14 st per needle, Turkish Cast on, inc 1, 3, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, all, 1). Knit on to 2.5mm dpns after increases (12 more rnds for long toes) then work sections on each sock in turn.

○ 36 rnds between switch to main colourway and first increase, then lifted inc from within gusset at far edge. Inc every other round, 16 stitches for each gusset.

○ Fleegle heel directions.

○ End when 2 stitches left on each side, swap to opposite needles before SSK to avoid holes. Double check stitch count after final decreases - should be 68. Knit for between 50 and 60 rnds(depending on stripe pattern and colours) before switching to contrast yarn for a single round before 2x2 ribbing for 20 rnds. JSSBO.

Plan:

● Day one - wind yarn, cast on & increase toes.(1) (1)
● Day two - switch yarn, knit to start of gusset increases.(2) (2)
○ Fleegle heel - increases on sock one (2)
○ Fleegle heel - heel turn/decreases sock one (3)
○ Fleegle heel - increases on sock two (4)
○ Fleegle heel - heel turn/decreases on sock two (4)
● Day three - knit sock one to wrap and turns.(2)
● Day four - knit sock two to wrap and turns.(3)
● Day five - wrap and turns on sock one and start decreases.(4)
● Day six - wrap and turns on sock two and start decreases.(4)
● Day seven - finish decreases on both socks.(4)
● Day eight - knit legs.(1:5, 2:5/6) (5)
● Day nine - knit ribbed cuffs.(6) (6)
● Day ten - weave in ends! (6) (6)

Working Notes:

○ Long toes, 68st/72 rnd foot, 68st/60 rnd leg.
○ Total stitches = 68, so ‘heel needle’ needs 2 less than this = 66. Before increases 1/2 stitches = 34, so need to increase total of 16 for each gusset, which will be 32 rounds, so a couple of extra rounds needed before starting increases.
○ Increase gussets for fleegle heel start much later than I would usually do for gusset/wrap&turn/flap heel - yellow marker shows the row that would be my first increase round. Now 13 rounds past that. Uncomfortable leaving it so late, but will try to resist!
○ So far so good. Decided to complete one heel before starting the next in case it all goes horribly wrong and I need to rip back, so have increased 16 stitches for each gusset of sock one (increases at opposite side of gussets than I would usually do, will review this when finished), knitted across instep (without having done knit row after increase), and leaving it there for this evening. Need to decide whether to switch to contrast yarn for back and forth on heel, and if so, whether to switch at start of gusset.
○ Knitted last 3 stitches before gusset marker with contrast and main held together.
○ Knitted heel as directed, switching back to main yarn when 2 st left before marker (not happy with that side gusset, bit loose, but change in future, not on next sock!). Decreased by a stitch either side to make st count 34 between markers.
○ 2nd heel, knitted to last 2 st before marker then knitted those 2 stitches (from marker) with both yarns then straight across
