Notes

34g each, 52g Kingfisher and 85g Blueberry Bonbon leftover.

Planned changes from First Fleegle Socks:

○ 12 rows of contrast after final toe increase for long contrast toes - not doing anatomical toes yet, though they are on this year’s ‘Try This’ list.

○ Longer cuffs because I like them long, and that is all. Try 24 rnds of ribbing before bind off.
》 Longer than 21 would be too much 《

○ Love love love the way that the Fleegle heel fits my foot, so doing that again. So this time, trust the Fleegle heel.

○ Ponder how to use a little less main yarn - plenty of contrast leftover, so maybe a rnd of BB every other end on the leg?
》 Weights working out okay - 26g of main left in each ball 《

Yarn:

○ Blueberry Bonbon (365) is identical to the darkest blue in the Kingfisher (844) colourway (and it’s gorgeous).

○ My first ball of Kingfisher had blue splodges through the orange section - WYS were kind enough to replace this for me, but worth keeping in mind. Problem arises because there are so many different colour sections it’s tricky to spot from a quality control perspective. This ball seems fine.
》 Worth pointing out that I’ve now found a couple of splodges in this one too - you can see in the orange stripe in the top photo.《

○ Love WYS 4ply. Soft to work with but hardwearing - I’ve found it perfect for socks.

Needles:

○ Have been using 2.5mm dpns despite ball band recommending 3.25mm, but after washing fabric still feels a teeny bit loose - I should probably switch to using 2.25mm for the foot but I’m a wimp and the idea of having to work out how many stitches/rounds because switching needle sizes makes me nervous… maybe this should go on this year’s ‘Try This’ list too!

Changes for next time:

○ Work out how to get rid of the holes in the corners - can’t get the suggestion on Fleegle’s blog to work.

○ Do yarn changes at gussets by knitting yarn together, instead of switching a la wainwick mum. Should help with loose stitches/gaps.
》 Having finished and woven in the ends I think I love the new way of doing them, so sticking with it. Think it’s just a case of getting the tension right. 《

Pattern:

○ Cast on 2AAT toes on 2.5mm circs (14 st per needle, Turkish Cast on, inc 1, 3, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, all, 1). Knit on to 2.5mm dpns after increases (12 more rnds for long toes) then work sections on each sock in turn.

○ 36 rnds(after long toes) before first increase, then lifted inc from within gusset at far edge. Inc every other round, 16 stitches for each gusset.

○ Fleegle heel directions.

○ End when 2 stitches left on each side, swap to opposite needles before SSK to avoid holes. Double check stitch count after final decreases - should be 68. Knit for between 50 and 60 rnds(depending on stripe pattern and colours) before switching to contrast yarn for a single round before 2x2 ribbing for 24 rnds. JSSBO.

Plan:

○ Day one - wind yarn, cast on & increase toes. (1)
○ Day two - knit to start of gusset increases (2)
○ Day three - gusset increases on sock one (2)
○ Day four - gusset increases on sock two (3)
○ Day five - heel turn/decreases (3)
○ Day six - knit leg on sock one (4)
○ Day seven - knit leg on sock two (4)
○ Day eight - knit ribbed cuffs (5/6)
○ Day nine - finish cuffs and weave in ends!(6)

Working Notes:

○ Total stitches = 68, so ‘heel needle’ needs 2 less than this = 66. Before increases 1/2 stitches = 34, so need to increase total of 16 for each gusset.
○ About 5 rounds left for the leg of sock one (sock two heel decreases complete) and really pleased with how quick they’re coming - Sunday now, only cast on on Friday!
○ Both legs now complete, tomorrow (Wednesday) will be all about the ribbing…
○ Have ended the leg at 60 rounds, at the end of a speckled section where the next solid is Blueberry Bonbon as this is the contrast shade I’m using for ribbing.
○ Did 21 rounds of contrast (20 ribbed) then jssbo on 22nd. I like long cuffs but think longer than this would be overwhelming colourwise.
○ Need to weigh remaining Kingfisher yarn and as long as it’s over 50g each I can work out which is the best contrast colour for the next pair. I’m pretty sure the options are Tumeric (358), Bubblegum (360) or Spearmint (309); since I’ve already done Juniper (157) and now Blueberry Bonbon (365)
》26g left in each ball of Kingfisher 《
