Notes

One weighs 31g, the other weighs 32g. 25g main yarn, 6/7g contrast.

Planned changes from Chocolate Lime Mojito Stripy Socks:

○ Long toes in contrast yarn to ensure only 25g of main colour used per sock.
○ Ribbed slip stitch heel for a change from eye of partridge - less stress not having to worry which row I’m on.
○ End heel flap when 3 stitches left on each side, swap to opposite needles before SSK to avoid holes.
○ Use 2.5mm throughout.
○ One round of contrast yarn before cuff ribbing.

Yarn:

○ First time using one of WYS country birds colourways - wasn’t sure if I liked the look of the speckled sections between the coloured stripes til I saw a pair in person.
○ Found it quite tricky to match repeats on the peacock - compared to mojito it’s complicated! The Juniper matches to the contrast colour on the speckled sections, so will now take a closer look at the speckled contrast colours in the other colourways. Chocolate lime is one of the five colours of solid stripes, along with Blueberry Bonbon, Spearmint, & Blue Raspberry (I think).
○ Couple of random green splodges from the darker green (choc lime) stripe in other places - doesn’t look purposeful, more of a quality control issue I think. Not too noticeable, but could imagine if they happened to be in more prominent places or colours it would be very annoying.
○ Three joins in the 13g(ish) of Juniper that I used in these.
○ Peacock ball one = 26g remaining, ball two = 30g (no idea why so much left of ball two!)

Needles:

○ Cast on with 2.5mm knitpro circs, knitted on to 2.5mm knitpro dpns after toe increases and before switching main yarn. Much prefer the more firm fabric this gives over 2.75mm, even for legs - would rather leave extra stitches in play after gusset for same size.

Remember for next time:

○ If contrast colour isn’t in main colour or (as with these) is in the speckled section, use that colour choice for the second pair from a single 100g ball - easier to organise contrast toes to first colour stripe when that is the case. Less wastage.
○ Did stripe slip stitch heel on these, but prefer look and feel of eye of partridge, so back to that next time. Maybe do some research to see if there are other variants?
○ Love the look of the longer contrast toes - definitely keep doing these. Could even be a few rounds longer - these were ten rounds after last increase row, try 14 next time.
○ The leg section of these are a bit shorter than I would ideally have - these are 44 rounds, but more would have meant less than 25g left for next pair. But if leg is 68st next time, that means 4st less per round, 176st, enough for approx 2.5 extra rounds - that’s not much extra leg length! Remaining main yarn balls are 26/30g, so no extra there - not sure how to stretch this any further - plenty of contrast left though, so have to think about how to use it - maybe a band of contrast colour immediately before end of foot, as this is the bit that has the most st therefore most yarn…

Pattern:

○ Cast on 2AAT toes on 2.5mm circs (14 st per needle, Turkish Cast on, inc 1, 3, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, all, 1). Knit on to 2.5mm dpns after increases (10 more rnds for long toes) then work sections on each sock in turn.

○ 36 rnds before first increase, then lifted inc from within gusset at heel edge. Inc every other round, 17 stitches for each gusset. Round out heel with 4/8/12 stitches W&T before eye of partridge heel.

○ End heel flap when 3 stitches left on each side, swap to opposite needles before SSK to avoid holes. Double check stitch count after final 2 decreases - should be 72. Knit for between 42 and 48 rnds(depending on stripe pattern and colours) before switching to contrast yarn for a single round before 2x2 ribbing for 20 rnds. JSSBO.

Working Notes:

○ Juniper toes - 14 stitches per needle, turkish cast on on 2.5mm circ, taat.
○ Usual increases - 1, 3, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, all, all, 1. Blue clip on first stitch of first round after last inc.
○ Blue clip is on round one of ten in contrast colour for toes, after last increase. Last three stitches of the round contrast doubled with main colour to secure.
○ Marking round one of ten with clips, 36 rounds before starting gusset increases. 17 stitches increased (plus knit round) before switching back to Juniper for wrap/turn rows.
○ Decreased 15 stitches in each gusset, which gives an overall gain of 4 so 72 in total for leg.
○ Just finished round 44 on the leg (after finishing decreases) and weighed yarn - 25g left. Would ideally do two more colour stripes (the two greens) so it ends having cycled through the colour changes four complete times, but won’t have the yardage. Pondering ripping back a row and ending at the end of the spotty round and switching to contrast yarn for cuff… while pondering I’ll knit the other sock to the same point!
○ Knitted both socks to the end of speckled section before first green stripe - switching to Juniper by holding both strands for 3 stitches.
○ Will weigh both yarn balls remaining once cut - fingers crossed each is 25g. Both now at same point colourwise, ready for next pair which I think will be with Chocolate Lime.
○ 26g & 30g remaining of peacock.
