Notes

Yarn:

○ Using Mojito (879) with Tumeric (358) for toes, cuffs, extra stripes and maybe the heel - I’ll decide when I get to it but it will either be Tumeric or Chocolate Lime (395)
《The even round after the 16th increase was the first of a chocolate lime, so doing the heel in this. Less of a contrast heel, more of a coordinating heel》

○ Adding in a three round stripe of Tumeric in between white and darkest green (choc lime) - partly because I’m not sure if I have enough Mojito to end up with long enough legs, and partly as a bit of a change to the vanilla WYS socks I’ve been knitting - not much of a change I’ll grant you, but baby steps!

○ Do wish WYS would list each coordinating shade for each country birds/cocktails colourway - it’s not so bad with these, but working out which green/blue is which across Peacock, Kingfisher and Blue Lagoon is a nightmare!

○ Love WYS 4ply. Soft to work with but hardwearing - I’ve found it perfect for socks and cast on less stitches with this than with others (such as Drops Fabel) - 68 instead of 72.

Needles:

○ Have been using 2.5mm dpns despite ball band recommending 3.25mm, could probably go down to 2.25 for the foot but don’t want to have to mess about with the stitch count!

Changes for next time:

○ Don’t like the Winwick mum style of switching yarn for adding in the extra stripes of Tumeric - leaves a bit of a gap since both yarn ends get tidied away to the left, under the new stitches. Maybe go back to knit three or four stitches with both yarns? Will need to do some more googling but might do the leg section of sock two like this then see how each looks after wearing/washing.

Pattern:

○ Cast on 2AAT toes on 2.5mm circs (14 st per needle, Turkish Cast on, inc 1, 3, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, 3, all, 1, all, all, 1). Knit on to 2.5mm dpns after increases (12 more rnds for long toes) then work sections on each sock in turn.

○ 36 rnds(after long toes) before first increase, then lifted inc from within gusset at far edge (two stitches in from end marker). Inc every other round, 16 stitches for each gusset.

○ Fleegle heel directions. (Knit 2 past centrally placed marker, k2tog, k; then turn, slip 1 pw then purl to 2 past central marker, SSP, p; turn and repeat closing gap each time.

○ End when 2 stitches left on each side, but on the knit row immediately after decreasing to 2, slide those two straight across to the left needle, switch yarn and knit with the main yarn across the top of the heel. When you reach the last 3 stitches before the marker, switch third and second stitch to opposite needles before SSK to avoid holes. Double check stitch count after final decreases - should be 68.

○ Knit for between 50 and 60 rnds(depending on stripe pattern and colours) before switching to contrast yarn for a single round before 2x2 ribbing for 21 rnds. JSSBO.

Changes from last time:
○ Try and work out the last gusset stitches - have tried decreasing last two at back of heel instead of edges, and with eight stitches in between, but going back to decreasing at the edges - or maybe a few stitches in.
《Did the decreases four stitches in from the edge, and placement of switching contrast/main yarn might be the tidiest yet (but only works if yarns are same colour…)》

Working notes:
○ Knitted to last 2 then slipped those two and switched back to main yarn (as dropped at stitch marker before heel with 3 st knitted with both yarns), k 1(yarn held double), then switched next 2 to opp needles and k2tbl(still doubled). Knit 2 more held double, then drop contrast and tuck up/donwn for maybe 10 or 12 st, continue to knit round with main yarn to 1 b4 next gap, then same. Next round, sm, k4 then k2tog. K to 6 before marker, k2tog, k even. Check st count.

○ 27.78g left of Mojito from sock 1. Centre pull starts on lime green, with 1/2 dpn length missing, followed by lighter green.
