Notes

Using Drops Fabel in Soft Chocolate Print colourway held double with 3.5mm dpns and 44 stitches.
As usual, dropping the pattern (or in this case, the chart) in to my usual sock recipe:
After toe increases knit 34rnds before first gusset increase. Then inc 2 every other end til 10st inc/side, knit even rnd before starting Fleegle heel.

  • I want the last solid line of the cat colour to be round 32 (after last toe increases), which - according to my scribbled over chart, puts the cats eyes on round 30, and nose beginning on round 25, so it’s plain st st until then.
  • Instead of plain st st, I’ve done 4rnds plain and now k/p for a rnd, then k all, then p/k. Kind of a lazy seed stitch - hopefully it will add texture to the kitty cats.
  • Texture looks good, but from rnd23 (which should be p/k) I’m switching to plain st st so the details of the face are clearer.
  • With lots of twisting round the other colour (and weaving ends in as I go) the nose looks okay, but I’m not confident about my colour choice for the eyes - I used a little Drops Fabel Olive Oil, and I don’t think there’s enough of a contrast with the mottled browns of the cat fur - you can just see the eyes next to the needle on the top photo. Oh well - if all else fails I can duplicate stitch black over the top I guess!
  • The plan is to use intarsia for the ears as otherwise I’ll have to carry the colour all the way around the sock, but not sure how you’re meant to do it in the round - will have to google or else make it up as I go along like I did with the nose! Haven’t decided yet what colour to do the rest of the sock, so switching back to the other sock now to do from the end of the toe increases to this last line before starting the ears.
  • Now have both at this point, and need to pick another colour for the rest of the socks!
  • Have decided to use Drops Fabel dark grey, and have double wound two cakes from 2 balls of yarn - 49.8g & 53.7g.
  • Increased by 10st each side (needed to be this many to get foot to right length - next time start increases later), and now after decreases have 48st total - hopefully this will make them a bit slouchy for her.
  • Knitted 40rnds after getting to 48st, then 2x2 rib for 18 more before jsso. Hoping to duplicate stitch the ears, embroider the whiskers and possibly duplicate st the eyes (as the colour doesn’t show up very well) over the next few days.
  • Ears done, but tricky to find time when she isn’t around to do whiskers/duplicate st eyes.

Not thrilled overall, but that’s due to my not-as-good-as-I’d-like finishing skills. My daughter was pleased, which is what counts! The photo towards the end is her standing up, holding my hands and hair! She was about nine months old, and these are a gift for her 14th birthday…!
