Notes

This felt like the perfect combination of pattern and yarn. As promised, the lace prevents any pooling or flashing, and the Hedgehog Fibres yarn is so soft and round, which gave really nice stitch definition. This pattern isn’t as stretchy as I assumed it would be, so the next time I knit this I’ll probably go up a needle size for the leg (these fit, but they’re tight to pull over my heel). This will probably become a go-to for super variegated yarns that don’t just become plain socks.

Knit cuff to 1.5 inches and the leg as written.

I knit a flap heel instead of the short-row heel the pattern suggested (I want these socks to last and I’m a little tough on my heels). Divide for heel and work slip-stitch for 32 rows (16 purl rows). Turn heel: sl 1, k17, ssk, k1, turn; sl 1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn; etc.

I have big feet (size 9), so I added an extra repeat of the chart to the instep (three repeats instead of two).

Knit foot to 7.75 inches. Decrease every other row until 48 sts left. Decrease every round until 36 sts remain. Knit one row plain, then graft toe together.

First sock weighs 37 grams.
