Notes

Notes for future knitters of this pattern:

  1. Lots of people decide to knit this stockinette. I totally get it, but when it comes both to texture (squishiness?) and blocking, you’re probably better off with the garter stitch the pattern calls for
  2. Can’t figure out using two circular needles? Cast on using DPNs or magic loop, and wait until you absolutely cannot fit any more stitches to try to switch. IMO it’s easier to make sense of how to manage two circs at that point. KnitPicks has a good tutorial from there.
  3. Use needles a little larger than the yarn calls for to get ideal blocked shape. (erm. do as i say, not I do grimacing)
  4. Accept that, if this is to be a baby blanket, it will not hold its shape forever. New parents generally do not have the time or energy to gaf about perfect corners
  5. an icord bind-off using needles a couple sizes larger—and with an extra row or two at the corners—will provide stretchiness without leaving loops big enough for baby fingers to fit in and pull on
  6. Weave in as you go or you’ll inevitably find it in your WIP pile longer than you intended. (6a. some people carry the yarn, others don’t. most regret it—I don’t think I do but I also wouldn’t do it again)
  7. As a baby blanket, this one’s a tricky proposition: cotton is really the ideal fiber for its purpose, but acrylic will get you the best final result, visually.
