Notes

Bag o’ pink yarn, all destined to become hats!

Read more about Pussyhat Project here. I plan to make one for me, plus one for any of my friends/family that wants to participate in any of the marches in January. Then as many as I can crank out for the cause!

Planning to knit in the round with a 1 purl stitch faux “seam” on each side. Then a 3 needle bind off on the top.

Hat #1 will be Rowan Pure Wool Worsted in Magenta.
Started with US 8s but the edge looked sloppy. So ripped out and did first 1½” of rib on US7s before switching to US8s for the remainder.

Mods:

  • Knit in the round: CO 96 sts on US 7 and join in the round.
  • Knit first 1½ inches on US 7; switch to US 8 for remainder of hat.
  • Knit 4¼ of ribbing. Next round, knit 47 sts, P1, place marker, knit to 1 stitch before beginning of round marker, P1.
  • Remainder of hat: * knit until 1 stitch before marker, P1, slip marker * ; repeat between * * .
  • Knit until hat measures approx 8¾”; turn hat inside out and do 3 needle bind off.

12/18. I have more of this yarn; casting on for Pussyhat #8 using it! Exact same mods as for #1.

Hat #1 will be going to a friend from Portland, OR who will travel to DC for the march. Hat #8 is for my mom, who will march in Portland.
