Bruce wanted socks with extra long legs to wear with his cowboy boots. I followed the pattern for size women’s M but knit the leg 9” long instead of 8.5” long and knit the foot 10” long instead of 9.5” long.

I worked 24 heel flap rows instead of 30 rows. I picked up 14 sts along each side of the heel flap instead of 15 sts for a total of 76 gusset sts instead of 78 sts.

I cut the yarn after completing the heel turn and reattached it to pick up gusset sts in order to keep the stripe pattern intact.

I knit 1 rnd even, knitting the picked up gusset sts through the back loop, before starting the gusset decreases.

For Bruce’s socks I usually knit a standard pointy toe, decreasing every other rnd to 16 sts. This time I followed the pattern, decreasing every other rnd to 32 sts then every rnd to 8 sts. I grafted the stitches sideways for a mitten toe.
