Notes

The pattern says the finished chest is 20”. But if you do the math, the chest should actually be 22”, which is how big my cardigan turned out.

The knitting itself wasn’t difficult and went pretty quickly, but I underestimated how hard it would be to weave in the white yarn ends so that they don’t show through the front. I wove in the ends using the duplicate stitch technique.

I caught the white yarn every third stitch using this continental-style technique.

I worked the body of the cardigan in one piece to the armholes in order to reduce the number of yarn ends to weave in.

I cast on 116 stitches (29 front + 58 back + 29 front) for the body of the cardigan.

I omitted the cords around the baby’s neck because common sense.

I decided to make the neckline lower and wider. I worked until the armhole measured 3.5” and bound off 15 stitches for the shoulders instead of 16. I knit the neckband for six rows (0.75”) instead of twelve as directed in the pattern.

I picked up the front band stitches instead of working a vertical button band because I knit a vertical button band once and I absolutely hated doing it. I picked up 65 stitches and worked the front band for six rows (0.75”).

Buttonhole Row (row 3, WS): rib first 2 sts, p2tog, yo, rib 9, repeat four times, p2tog, yo, rib last 6 sts

I accidentally cast off 7 stitches for armhole instead of 6 - 102 stitches (25 front + 52 back + 25 front)

I used six 1/2” buttons from Hobby Lobby from the same package as Amelia’s Gray Cardigan.

Right Front Neck:
-work until armhole measures 3.5” long, ending with WS row (pattern row 2)
row #1: bind off 4 stitches at beginning of next row - 21 sts
row #2: decrease 1 - 20 sts
row #3: decrease 1 - 19 sts
row #4: purl
row #5: decrease 1 - 18 sts (pattern)
row #6: purl
row #7: decrease 1 - 17 sts
row #8: purl
row #9: decrease 1 - 16 sts
row #10: purl
row #11: decrease 1 - 15 sts (pattern)
-work two rows even
-bind off 8 sts, work 1 row even, bind off remaining 7 sts

Left Front Neck:
-end on RS row (pattern row 1)
row #1 (WS): BO 4 sts - 21 sts
row #2: decrease 1 - 20 sts
row #3: decrease 1 - 19 sts
row #4: knit
row #5: decrease 1 - 18 sts
row #6: pattern
row #7: decrease 1 - 17 sts
row #8: knit
row #9: decrease 1 - 16 sts
row #10: knit
row #11: decrease 1 - 15 sts
-work 2 rows even
-bind off 8 sts, work 1 row even, bind off remaining 7 sts
