I wanted a bust measurement in between sizes 34” and 38”. I worked at a looser gauge, followed the stitch counts for size 34”, and followed the armhole and sleeve cap length measurements for size 38”.
I used a long tail cast on, started with a WS row, and worked 11 rows of rib instead of 10.
I decreased an extra stitch at each armhole edge of the fronts and back for a narrower cross back width. Each shoulder has 10 sts instead of 11 sts.
I added 0.5” of shoulder shaping.
Back shoulder shaping: Knit until armhole measures 7.75”, ending with a WS row. BO 5 sts at beginning of next three rows. Row 4: BO 5 sts, purl across 22 neck sts and place on scrap yarn
L front shoulder shaping: Knit until armhole measures 7.75”, ending with a WS row.
1: (RS) BO 4, k2tog and BO next st, k2tog 4 times, k1 - 6 sts
2: (WS) k3, k2tog, k1 - 5 sts
3: (RS) BO 5 sts
R front shoulder shaping: Knit until armhole measures 7.75”, ending with a RS row.
1: (WS) BO 4, p2tog and BO next st, p2tog 4 times, p1 - 6 sts
2: (RS) p3, p2tog, p1 - 5 sts
3: (WS) BO 5 sts
I knit the sleeves 17.5” long.
I knit the sleeve cap 6” long per size 38”. Instead of BO 4 sts on rows 25 and 26, I decreased every other row to 8 sts then decreased to 6 sts on the next row for 30 sleeve cap rows.
I picked up 218 sts for the button band: 63 sts along center fronts, 34 sts along front necks, and 24 sts across back neck.
I worked the first button band row in rib instead of knitting. I increased 4 sts along each front neck so the stitch count for the shawl collar would be the same as size 38”.
Buttonhole row 1: rib 4, BO 2, (rib 8, BO 2) x5, rib to end
Buttonhole row 2: rib to R front marker, rib 2, CO 2, (rib 9, CO 2) x5, rib 4
I used six 1 1/4” buttons from lotsofbuttons.com.
