My classmate Jay asked for a cozy for her travel mug. I wanted to make her something to thank her for watching my cats when I was away one weekend, so I was happy to do it. She initially asked for stripes and then she asked if I could make it in Ravenclaw colors to match her Ravenclaw beanie.

Of course, she has an oddly shaped travel mug - it’s pretty girthy and not as tapered as a standard travel mug.

I knit this cozy top-down so I could hide any initial cast on, joining, or color change weirdness with the pom-poms. This project made me appreciate how rarely I knit stripes.

I carried the yarn instead of cutting and rejoining the colors for every stripe.

I used a Lion Brand Pom-Pom Maker for the pom-pom. I used the medium size for a 1.25” diameter pom-pom.

Stripe Sequence:
cast on 48 sts with navy using long tail cast on
1-4: rib
5: navy
6-9: gray
10-13: navy
14-17: gray
18-21: navy
22-25: gray
26: navy
27-30: rib
bind off 40 sts using stretchy decrease bind off

Decrease Rounds:
-pm for center of round, k3, ssk, k to 3 sts past center marker, k2tog

-rnd 24 (40 sts)
