I went down a needle size to get gauge.
I used a lighter colored yarn so that the owls would pop. I used Cascade 128 because it has such great stitch definition. I chose a tweed yarn because I knew it wouldn’t distract from the owls but it would add some visual interest to the rest of the sweater.
I knitted the body for 15” before attaching sleeves and I knitted the sleeves for 18” before attaching to body
This project called for 540 yards but I used almost 600. Maybe that’s because my gauge ended up being tighter than I thought, but the sweater isn’t too small, so I don’t know.
The smallest buttons we had at Jo-Ann Fabrics (where I work) were 7mm (1/4”) and the pattern calls for 5mm buttons, but I think 5mm buttons would be too small.
The pattern says to knit the body to the underarm as long as you want (after the waist decreases), but that doesn’t make sense because then your waist decreases end up too low and fall below your waist. That happened to me; I knitted the body to 16.5” and the waist wasn’t in the right place so I pulled it out.
I followed the pattern exactly except I added another row of knitting after joining the body and sleeves and before starting the owls to make sure the yoke was deep enough after reading some other Ravelers’ project pages.
