Since my gauge was smaller than the pattern’s I made a lot of adjustments for a finished chest measurement of 20”, the 3-6 month size. I also added length to the body and sleeves so the cardigan would fit 6-12 months.

I knit the body 11” long (per the 18 month size) instead of 8” (per the 3-6 month size).

I worked 6 rows of garter for the bottom band instead of 4.

For the back I followed the directions for the 18 month size except I cast on 40 sts instead of 39.

For the fronts I followed the directions for the 2 year size. I cast on 22 sts instead of 20 to accommodate the button band overlap.

I added short rows to the button bands every 6th row so they wouldn’t pull up.

I put the buttonholes on the left front instead of the right front for a boy. I made 4 buttonholes instead of 2 at 1”, 3.5”, 6”, and 8.5”.

I used four 7/8” buttons from Hobby Lobby.

For the sleeves I picked up 32 sts and decreased down to 22 sts for the wrist. I worked the decreases 1 st in from the edge. I knit the sleeves 6.5” long instead of 6”

For the hood I picked up 48 sts and increased to 60 sts (15.5”) and worked even for 7”.
