Notes

My mother wears this horrid fleece neck warmer - the kind you wear skiing - when she goes on walks in the fall and winter. I decided she needed an upgrade. And she bought me the red yarn in November 2015 when we were in Kansas visiting my grandmother. I thought it would be appropriate to make her something with it.

This cowl was really fun to knit. It worked up super quickly - it only took me a few hours. I have very little experience with stranded knitting so there are some wonky stitches and whatnot. I wouldn’t enter this cowl into a state fair or anything, but I’m pretty happy with the result.

I added buttons and loops per the Haberdashery Cowl pattern. I held three strands of yarn together for the button loops instead of six as called for in the pattern because I used bulky yarn and the yarn in the pattern is sport weight.

The buttons are 1 1/8” and I got them from lotsofbuttons.com.

The garter edges are a bit wavy, even after blocking. If I were to make this again I would go down a needle size when working the garter stitches.

I used a 24” circular instead of a 16” circular because I think 24” is more comfortable to work with.

This video about catching floats continental-style was very helpful. No more tangled yarn!

Total Cost: $11.56

  • Red Yarn: $7.47
  • White Yarn: $2.99
  • Buttons: $1.10
