This hat did not work out for me. It turned out too loose and too short. This is the second time I knit this hat and the first one came out fine. My gauge was spot-on and the finished measurements were the same as the first one, so I don’t really know what went wrong.

I knit the rib for 5 rows instead of 6 because I started with a WS row so the nice side of the long-tail cast on would be visible on the RS of the hat.

I worked rows 1-12 of the chart once then rows 1-7 before decreasing for the crown.

I knew the hat would be too short so I worked 7 crown decrease rounds (per the 19.75” size) instead of 6 decrease rounds (per the 18” size). I also worked an extra knit row before the final decrease round. That left me with 42 stitches so I k2tog around, per the 17.25” instructions. I worked a total of 15 decrease rounds instead of 12.

When working the crown decreases on pattern row 12 I p3tog instead of omitting the YO and p2tog.
