Notes

I made this hat for my future mother-in-law for Christmas. She mentioned once that she has a small head and has a hard time finding hats that fit right. I figured this would be a good pattern because it has a lot of negative ease and since I used bulky weight yarn instead of super bulky, I figured it wouldn’t stretch quite so much.

This hat was a lot of fun to knit. The mesh pattern was simple enough that it was almost mindless, but not boring like stockinette. And it was a quick project; it only took a couple of hours. I enjoyed making this hat and would definitely make one for myself, but I feel like I can’t pull it off since I don’t have long flowing blonde hair.

Because I used bulky yarn instead of super bulky, my row gauge was significantly smaller than the pattern. Because of that, I worked 16 rows even before the crown shaping instead of 10.

I used 3/4” buttons from Jo-Ann Fabrics.

I used the magic loop method with a 32” long cable for the crown.

I initially used the tubular cast on method but my cast on edge was way too tight so I used the long tail method instead.

Total Cost: $9.54

  • Yarn: $4.79
  • Buttons: $4.75
