Notes

After making the vanilla version of these, I found some black yarn and started the Oreo-style creme-filled chocolate sandwich cookies, too.

My intent was to make my cookies as realistic-looking as possible and I’m pleased with the results. To achieve this, it’s important to make the “creme filling/icing” component slightly smaller in diameter because that’s how it is on the real Oreo Sandwich cookies.

These turned out great, are fun to make, and the GrandTwins will love them!

I used the pattern listed as a basis for crocheting these and supplemented it by watching a sandwich cookie being made on YouTube. The basic difference is that the one on YouTube conserves yarn by making just enough of the creme/frosting/icing center to show between the cookies on the outside. The YouTube video has you make the icing ring for the inside of the cookie in half-double crochet, but I made mine in double crochet because I crochet so tightly and I wanted mine to be bigger.

Here’s the YouTube video: Chocolate or Vanilla Crochet Cookie

And here is the pattern written out: Crochet Chocolate or Vanilla Cookie

UPDATE: I’ve finally finished four of two different types of Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies.
One I made to look like a “regular” Oreo (using only one strand of white yarn) and the other with two strands of white yarn held together for a thicker center to mimic the Double Stuf Oreo cookies!
And even though I know it’s just YARN I get a great urge to lick off the “icing”!

(The last photo is a wee bit of whimsy. I confess I enjoyed taking that one almost as much as making the cookies themselves!)
