I’m very happy with this and its size--perfect for wrapping, and very warm. It will stay wrapped by itself, but you could also use a pin to keep closed. I’ve worn it every day since completion!
The Yarn
The yarn was previously knit into an almost sweater, and sat idle for 7 years. I then unraveled, washed, dried, and rolled it into balls. I was worried I would miss the tight(er) twist, but the yarn has a really nice bloom.
The Pattern
Very simple and satisfying. It was a bit unclear how long to knit before the edging, but I just knit until I looked down and thought, “I don’t want this to be TOO huge,” then started the border.
Note the pattern mentions a dimension of 46”, but I couldn’t decipher if that meant along the live stitches (where the ruffle will originate) or 46” measured along the center eyelet column. After looking at several knitters projects, I realized the 46” was indeed the CENTER EYELET COLUMN.
9/5/2013- Cast on. Memorized the pattern after a few rows. This will be a good “car” project, I think. Still deciding how wide I’ll make this before beginning the border.
9/12/2013- increased to 187 stitches total so far in pattern and switched to third skein.
9/22/2013- almost done with third skein. Center column measures 20”. I’ll likely need to switch to longer circulars before long. It’s already getting a little crowded on this 32” circ at 230 stitches.
9/29/2013- decided to begin border (1x1 ribbing)
9/30/2013- began fifth skein during the increase row. There are a lot of stitches on my needles. They don’t slide super well, but I’m managing fine with 40” circulars.
10/4/2013- began sixth skein. About 1 1/2” into the 2x2 rib border.
10/6/2013- began seventh skein. I have a little over an inch left of the border. I realized I made a few mistakes when I did my increase row (forever ago). Note to self: don’t work on imperative rows in a room with really low light. Whoops. Oh well. It’s not worth ripping back thousands (upon thousands) of stitches. Blocking should help hide the error. I’m getting excited as I near the end of this!
10/11/2013- binding off…used less than a yard of my eighth skein…and done! There were a lot of ends to weave in, since the skeins were small (~110 yards), but well worth it. Pictures show it unblocked, and I might not block it, since I love how it drapes as it is. Very pleased with the finished product!
