Notes

Second attempt to make a garment from this yarn. This sweater looks fairly harmless, so I figured I’d give it a try. What’s the worst that could happen?

3/26 - Excitement! It’s starting to look like a sweater and the sizing looks about where I want it. No huge glaring mistakes yet, though there are a few flubs that will hopefully smooth out in the wash.

3/28 - Am halfway done with the front panel. Having a bit of tension inconsistency in some of my rows, but am slowly training my hands to loosen up and stitch evenly. While far from perfect, I’ve only made two obvious errors and was able to correct one of them (decreasing an added stitch) in the next row. Learning as I go and looking forward to something wearable at the end of this!

3/31 - Am in the middle of the arms now, which required switching to a longer cable to keep them from getting all bunched up. Luckily, my KnitPro kit arrived today, so I was able to transfer the sweater onto my brand new pretty acrylic needles as well! Am considering making the neck and sleeves a size bigger because I tend to like them on the wide side. Also, only started my 2nd ball of yarn when I got to sleeves -- joined by felting and it worked perfectly! Might never go back to tying again on wool-based projects.

4/17 - Finished and seamed as of today! Still need to wash and block before I take final pictures on the dress form, but am feeling very accomplished. Actually had to frog and redo the whole front half between this update and when I last wrote, because I made a huge mistake at the neckline and my knitting was too tight for me to pick up stitches again after ripping it out. That added almost a week to my work time, but lesson learned.

4/19 - Washed, dried and photographed! It’s more of a sweater tunic than anything else, but is actually quite cute with a belt! Being my first sweater and first knit project ever, I ran into a few problems reading the pattern. Took a couple of mess-ups to figure out the neckline, and I ended up with a garter stripe going up both side hems instead of just edging the little side vents like they were probably supposed to. It has the look of a design element and helps hide the side seams a bit, though, so I rather like it. More notes on blog page.
