Using a single strand of plötulopi is still incredibly warm but saves on yardage. It softens with wearing and occasional wet blocking but definitely still requires a soft baselayer.
Just a hint of plum for subtle bits of color.
Finished first white yarn cake (MC) at about 15-16” from bottom hem.
Sz US10 needles throughout until last row and bind off of neckline.
Stranded bottom section currently 46”/117cm. Hoping to block to 48”/122cm. (Update: aggressive blocking took it to 50”/127cm without skewing the pattern)
Slight rolled hem followed by broken rib.

Sleeve mods: Only using sz US10 needles. CO 41. Makes for 2 knit sts together at beginning and end.
4 rows stockinette.
6 total rows broken rib with dark grey.
2 total rows broken rib with lighter grey (increased to 48 sts on last knit row of the lighter grey).

Single strand, XL, only really need maybe 2 1/2 plates max of the MC

Can never leave well enough alone with collars. For this one, I wanted it to stand up just a tiny bit without being too thick so did stockinette 2 rows (for the additional decreases), then K1P1 for about 4 or so rows, then stockinette for another 3 rows.
Neckline was far too tight for my big head with big hair so had to unpick my original bind off knit with sz US10/6mm needles and changed to size US15/10mm. They just happened to be the dpn’s at hand that were big enough to make a difference.
Knit one row with the 10mm then did the bind off with them. The US15/10mm felt massive but gave a perfectly stretchy bind off that rolls nicely at the top edge and doesn’t look weird at all to me.
Plötulopi is still my current favorite yarn to work with. It blocks out so soft with a beautiful halo. It’s not next-to-skin soft but with a light layer underneath, it’s a joy to wear.
Using single strand means knitting with a gentle hand but I am surprised again and again at how strong and warm the finished garments are. Our temps are hovering around 25F/-4C now and my Plötulopi sweaters with a silk baselayer are still incredibly warm. If it’s windy, then I just put on a heavier baselayer.
Blocked measurements for XL single strand on sz US10/6mm needles:
Chest ~ Aggressively blocked to 50”/127cm. This yarn can take it once it’s knit up)
Length from base of neck ~ 28”/71cm
(I knit the body longer than the pattern calls for. Maybe 19”/48cm or so. Blocked to 20.5”/52cm from underarm to hem.)
Yarn used (VERY ROUGH guesses based on weights but each plate was different. Ex. white = 104g per unused plate. Black = 124g per unused plate)
White - about 600 yards/550m (just under 2 plates)
Light grey- maybe 175 yards/160m
Dark grey- maybe 100 yards/91m
Black- maybe 135 yards/123m (unsure of starting weight)
Plum- maybe 60 yards/55m
