Pattern improvised on-the-fly, a basic stocking stitch hat shape with some slip stitch patterning based on an afghan from “A Year of Afghans: 52 Projects to Keep You Knitting Every Week of the Year (The Best from Annie’s Attic)”. The result reminds me a little of mosaic tiles.

This was intended to be a gift, but it came out a bit small for the recipient so it will gladly be my wee daughter’s hat for next winter :)
