Worked with helical stripes, two of grey (Sea Gull) and one of variegated pink/green (Mansfield Revisited). The yarns have similar saturation so the stripes shift in and out as the colours change.

I started with a shaped toe I invented on the fly: cast on 30 stitches in grey, then increase at the big two side twice every sixth row, and at the little toe side twice every second row, up to 54 stitches. Then join the second strand of grey and the variegated to start the helix.

I have a high instep, so I gradually increased under the foot to 64 stitches, and I used a Fleegle heel, placed in the colour sequence so the back of the heel would be grey. The leg was knit in 3x1 ribbing for about three inches.

Handling three yarns for the helix stripes was a little fiddly, but not as bad as I feared, and I like the jogless single-row stripes.

The socks are a bit too big for me - again - but now I know where to start this kind of heel next time. I also need to get some size 0 needles; thanks to my loosey-goosey knitting the fabric isn’t coming out dense enough on 1s.
