Notes

This handspun has some of the dry, mossy feel of Brooklyn Tweed Loft/Shelter so I looked through their patterns and found exactly the kind of wide, textured scarf I was thinking about.

I made some alterations to the ribbing:

  • I did a provisional cast on, so that I could bind off both edges the same way at the end of the project. (I hate mis-matched scarf ends!) I ended up using JSSBO but worked quite tightly.
  • I also changed the ribbing pattern as I don’t like 1x1 ribbing, and I wanted to do the garter edges in knits instead of purls, and I didn’t like how the purl columns in the main chart fell on top of knit columns in the given ribbing. So mine was (RS) k2, *k2, p2, k2, p1, k2, p2, k2, p3*, k2, p2, k2, p1, k2, p2, k4 and WS to match.

Different needle sizes are mostly because I’m such a loose knitter, otherwise it is being knit to pattern :)

I used all my yarn and ended up with 13.5 repeats and a scarf with finished size 30x175cm (about 12x70”).
