Excuse the model in the photos - clearly, the jumper was NOT knit for him, but how could I refuse such a cute model?
gauge 9st 10cm, desired body circumference 40”, 90 stitches.
CO 82 on 7mm, k1p1 rib 2”
change to stst, increase 8 stitches evenly to 90 stitches
change to 9mm, stst to under arms
gauge on body turned out to be 9.5st 10cm.. so chest was 38” instead of planned 40”. Going with it - appears to have enough ease to still be a comfortable fit.
CO18 on 7mm for sleeve, k1p1 rib 2” (8 rounds), change to 9mm, stst, increase 2 stitches every 4 rows to 32 st. knit 35 rounds
I increased to 36 for sleeves, as per schematic, but that gave a 16” upper arm which was approximately 4” of ease on my skinny little arms, making the jumper look almost dolmen sleeved and utterly ridiculous, so frogged and went to 32, which is only 35% of my body stitches and gives a comfortable ease
In future, I’d rather work with 25% as CO for sleeves, increasing to 35%
Join bits together, knit 5 rounds, begin raglan shaping. Decrease to 40 stitches. Change to 7mm needles, 8 rounds rib, cast off.

It has lasted well and been a very comfortable and warm jumper (nick named ‘the boyfriend jumper’ because of its comfortable fit), but has earned its retirement from service. I have now knitted its replacement - the boyfriend II.
