Used a tubular CO. One rnd of 1/1 then adjusted the stitches for 2/2. Accidentally knit 9.5cm of the brim but left it.
Had a false start with the colorwork since it’s been a while since I’ve done any and I had some trouble tensioning my yarn. In the past, I’ve held both yarns on the same hand but different fingers. Arthritis apparently makes that work not so well but it makes holding them in different hands even worse (I’m currently experiencing a flare in my left hand which is making knitting a little troublesome). So I finally settled on both yarns held in the same hand and on the same finger. It means I have to readjust them somewhat frequently but I seem to be getting fairly even tension now. Holding gray dominant.
This is my first attempt at laddered/jacquard floats and it seems to be going well. I could have probably given more forethought to where the ladders should be, but it seems to be decently forgiving so it’s still working.
My colorwork is so freaking messy. I hope it will block out. I found some puckering around the jacquard float - apparently I’m pulling things too tight when knitting them even though I’m trying to keep things super loose. Again, I hope it will block out to not be so noticeable. I mean, I’m pretty sure I will have enough yarn to make a second (and maybe third?) hat to improve the colorwork but I don’t think I’ll actually want to.
Note to self: pull from the center when doing colorwork. Otherwise the yarns tug on each other when unraveling and it is so annoying.
Photos are of the unblocked hat. Super messy but I still think it is cute. And hopefully the messiness will block out! If not, there is certainly enough yarn to make another!
Blocking now and there is massive looseness at the top of the colorwork, which begins precisely where I turned the hat inside out to prevent puckering. I guess it worked. Once it is dry, I will go through and tighten up the gray.
Loose bits snugged up. Hat looks great. Contemplating a bobble but marking this as complete (even though I think I’m going to order a faux fur pom pom).
