Notes

26 Nov
Swatch done… and about half way through I learned a better way to swatch in circular knitting. Good to know for next time.

28 Nov
Had some issues with the button hole (never made one before), particularly the cast on but this helped that issue. Once I got that section all straight (after three tries, all because I can’t count), it went well. Now I’m done with one (except the thumb) and ready to start the second one. I find myself wishing I chose yarn that was more solid to show off the cable more, but this is still really cute.

29 Nov
I should not knit when on cold medication. I keep having to frog back and fix mistakes where I misread the pattern. But I think it is all straightened out now and I just have to shape the cuff and do the thumbs on both mittens. Thankfully, my gauge seems to be the same for both mittens. Celebrate!

03 Dec
Finally finished with the thumbs - I had to put this down for a couple of days while I recover from a cold that has left me rather muzzy-headed. I had to redo the first thumb, so I technically did three thumbs but I’m pleased with them.

Out of curiosity, I weighted each glove: 31.7g and 31.9g. Rock on. Much better than with my mittens - the difference in gauge showed up in the 5g weight difference.

Next up: block, sew in ends and FIND BUTTONS!

06 Dec
The weather has gotten colder so they took a bit to dry while blocking. But now they are all dried (and SO SOFT!) and I have the ends sewn in (even though the scrap yarn in the pics makes it look like I don’t) and have added on the buttons.

I debated doing the thumb gusset like many others have done but I decided to follow the pattern since it was a new (to me) method for adding a thumb. The heel of the palm does stretch the knit a little, but it isn’t tight by any means and I don’t feel any restrictions when moving my thumb so I’m quite happy with it. I think with a tighter gauge or a less stretchy yarn, there might be a problem but it’s pretty ideal with this.

They felt nicely warm when I was trying them on. I’m going to have to make some fingerless gloves for me to use this winter! I hope my SIL likes them!
