Yes, I am still working on my Tempest sweater, but I saw this pattern and kind of fell in love. My birthday yarn will be perfect for it! Since I’m making it for my foot, I’m going to use a smaller needle size, though I’m not sure what size yet. Probably will cast on Monday or Tuesday, depending on how things go. But today I balled and split the yarn so I’m officially calling this a go!

Casting on. Used knitted cast on (cause I’m lazy like that). Trying with US1s to make it a better fit for my non-manly foot.

Well, good news, bad news. The good news is: I worked on this for about four or so hours today and got through the first repeat of the pattern. It looks sooooo cool! The bad news: the sock is a bit too tight so I’ve had to frog back to the ribbing. I’ve had issues in the past with non-lace socks being a bit snug on my ankle and it looks I made it happen this time by going down a needle size. So! I will keep the ribbing with a US1 (since it fits great) and will switch to a US1.5 for the leg of the sock.

As disappointing as it is to have to rip back so much work, I’m pretty stoked at how awesome the pattern is turning out. It looks so neat and I think the way the movement is created (through increases and decreases) is so smart!

I’ve now gotten through two pattern repeats on the first sock. I plan on getting to Rnd11 of the third repeat. That’ll give me a length slightly over 5.5”, I think. Which might be a tad long for the snugness of the sock on my fat ankles, but I think (hope) blocking will relax it the tad I need.

Second sock has been started. I’m through the ribbing (in US1) and am almost done with the first pattern repeat (in US1.5). I’ve gotten all my chores finished for today (unless I get the urge to scrub some grout and I’m thinking no) so hopefully I’ll make some good headway today.

Heel flap. And go!

11 Sep
Heel flap x 2 done, turned two heels. Now working on the gusset decreases. Woo!

18 Sep
Almost ready for the toe decreases! I have one, maybe one and a half pattern repeats to go on the foot before I’m there. It’d be awesome if I could finish this weekend!

25 Sep
I didn’t get to finish these this weekend. But I got really close! So close that 40 minutes today has given me enough time to finish one sock. Now just to finish the toe on the second one and block!

And now we are blocking! Whee!

29 Sep
It took forever for them to dry but they are all done now! They are still snug to get over my heel but a little bit of effort gets them on and then they fit perfectly. Totally worth it for cool socks!
