Found a chart for cross stitch argyle… adapted it for knitting the husband socks.

04 Nov
Cast on for the first sock. Used the Short Row Toe with Wraps from The Sock Knitter’s Handbook by Charlene Schurch & Beth Parrott. The directions for picking up the wraps was… not so clear. But this tutorial helped me (again) to get it figured out. (Not before I had to rip out the first toe and start again, but the second time it went much better.)

14 Nov
Through the toe, foot and heel of the first sock. I used the Reverse Strong Heel from The Sock Knitter’s Handbook by Charlene Schurch & Beth Parrott. Now working on the leg, which takes a lot longer.

30 Nov
First sock done. Blocking to check the size before I make the second one. And yay! It fits! Off to make the second one!

26 Dec
Second one is done; I didn’t quite make it for Christmas, but it was really close! Blocking now.

Dan loves the socks! I gave them to him to try on and he refused to take them off. Wore then when we went out to the yarn store and said they were great. (I was worried about the seam on the heel but it caused no problems.)

Short Row Toe with Wraps for 70 sts. CO 35 sts. K34,wrap, turn. P33, wrap, turn. Continue. After toe is complete, knit one full round in st st.

Begin pattern on foot with st st sole. For the foot, repeat the chart three times and then work Rnd 1-8 again.

Work Reverse Strong Heel after Rnd 8. Work heel turn on 35sts. When there are four unworked sts remaining, place marker in the middle; this will be the new beginning of the round for the leg.

Work the gusset over Rnds 9-14, one full chart repeat and then Rnds 1-8. There will be on extra stitch. Begin to work the leg on Rnd 9. Decrease the extra stitch in pattern at the gusset on Rnd 9.

For the leg, work Rnds 9-15 then five full repeats of the chart. (The round will begin on the chart at stitch 11.) Then work 18 rounds of 3/2 ribbing. Bind off with JSSBO.
