Notes

I was super excited when I had the pleasure of testing this adorable design by The Cheerful Chameleon. I fell in love with the design as soon as I saw her designing it and was very excited to make this awesome design. I really enjoyed making this pattern, and I’m very happy with the finished results. She is such a cute pattern heart and I definitely want to make her again!

Please note this is the pattern testing version of this pattern, it’s now been changed slightly before publishing. The main differences now is her body and head are made separately, mine was made with an all in one method for the body and head (which I personally prefer smiley ). Mine also includes some cardboard in the head for structure (as you’ll see in my wip photos), this is no longer used in the new version of the pattern as its not needed smiley. Funny story actually as I put my cardboard piece inside the head in a totally different way to how I was meant to by accident, however it worked and I feel adds a good shape to the head so I’ll most likely do this again on purpose for future makes. You could say it was one of those happy mistakes, like I said though in this new version you don’t need to do this at all. The only other point to note is that you might notice the stripes on my Chameleon aren’t lined up as they should be, this was corrected during the pattern testing process so don’t worry yours will be perfectly lined up as they should be smiley. She still looks great though, don’t you think? grin

Opps I nearly forgot something that is really important, as there is one more difference between my version and hers. She makes all her amigurumi using the yarn under/yarn over method, often known as the x-stitch. I did not realise this when I started testing, and by the time the issue was realised during testing I was too late to start over (this is now noted in the pattern). She still works perfectly well if you want to make your amigurumi in the normal way, just like mine grin it’s just that she’ll be a different size as usually amigurumi made using the x-stitch turn out smaller. This is why my version ended up being bigger than the stated size for the DK pattern. I do love making amigurumi using the x-stitch funnily enough, it often makes them look even better in my opinon. The only reason I didn’t do this was because I was pattern testing and its important you make it the way its written, little did I know at the time that was how it was meant to be….well not until it was too late anyway. It’s one of a few reasons I am looking forward to making this super cute pattern again, she’ll look great no matter what way you crochet as my photos show but I sure am looking forward to making a version this way too heart_exclamation

I followed the DK guide instructions, only exception is I’m using a 2.5mm hook as this works best for the yarn I’m using. This means I did these sizings;

Eyes 10mm
Eye Felt 1/2”
Cheek Felt 5/8”
Decorative Hook 2mm (this was cut down in length by my husband, I just used a standard aluminium crochet hook)

Please note:I used pipe cleaners instead of floral wire as this is easily available, I’ve used it for previous amigurumi designs and its worked well. It states to use floral wire for the tail so I used pipe cleaners for this piece, but I also decided to use it for the arms and legs (legs - both pieces before its sewn into one so still exactly as per pattern instructions) too. Not only was it the perfect filling for the arms and legs instead of trying to get fibre fill into very little space but also because it gives you extra posing ability if you want it.

I made Chloe using one of my favourite cotton yarns, which is sadly now discontinued as the yarn company closed down this year. This yarn is stated as a DK yarn but I’ve always felt it was closer to sport than dk in my opinion, but then again I’ve seen other yarns labelled as DK and its been a simular thickness. I really love the colours I choose for her as I feel this pattern calls out for bright colours so that’s exactly what I did, and I have to say I’m delighted with the outcome. I would love to make a version of her in the bright pink you see featured in the pattern but sadly I only own one ball so I really couldn’t frowning_face but if I’m ever lucky enough to source another ball from somewhere I’d definitely make a pink Chloe. All 3 yarns I choose was from their bright range so they all come from the same spectrum of colours, so they do work perfectly together. oh and the bit of black you see is some black crochet thread, I used my Scheepjes Maxi Bonbon which is perfect for jobs like these smiley. I didn’t mention amounts used for this one as honestly its so little to track.

I absolutely love this pattern, it’s got to be one of my favourites heart and in my head I am already planning more versions of her. I’m sure your going to love her too, as she is fun to make and I think she looks amazing once she is done. I hope you’ll all enjoy this pattern as much as I do, and enjoy looking over my photos as you see me bringing her to life!

I will be adding more photos to this project over the next few days as I like to include my work in progress photos. As this takes a little longer to organise and upload I’ve started with the finished photos for now so you can see how awesome she looks star-struck
