Making this for a coworker who plays Pokémon Go! His avatar wears a hat just like this one.

Making the teen/adult size.

Hat body takes 2 skeins of orange (terra-cotta) yarn. Last row of body, scales & fin (tail & side) accents are done with the second skein.

Body: Round 29 of body doesn’t tell you whatvtype if decrease to make… I did a sc decrease in both places on this round.

Mouth: couldn’t find a nice pink in worsted weight, so using 2 strands held together of DK weight yarn.

Bottom & Too Fins: directions are very confusing.
Directions don’t say if you are to slip stitch at the end of each round to join, no mention of any chain to get to the next round. Each spike ends with 4 sc which leaves a hole on the top of each spike & no direction on how to close it before adding stuffing.
Luckily I know how to shape while crocheting. After making the base rounds. I divided the fin into either 3 or 4 sections (depending on the fin). Then I crochet in the round around each of those sections making my decreases where needed to make the spike. I’ll use the yarn tail to thread thru the 4 stitches to close the hole.

Side fins: I sc around the entire fine in white before adding the orange for a more finished edge.
