I’ve made four pairs of these.
Went down to a size US#6 to get gauge & used the same needle for the entire project.
Mods:
Shape cuff… directions list two lines indicating to do the rib for 3 inches each. This would total a 6inch cuff. I ignored the second one & just did a 3 inch cuff (20 rounds).
I continued to end round 18 with the P2 to match the P2 on the other side of the cable.
Row 22: I worked like this…
K to marker, remove marker, put 15 stitches in holder, remove marker, knit to end. I left all 15 stitches for the thumb so I wouldn’t have to add as many later, which eliminates the extra holes.
Round 23: I worked it like this…
For right mitt:
K15, k2tog, k to end (28 stitches)
For left mitt:
K24, k2tog, k to end (28 stitches)
Shape top:
I knit 6 rounds & then did k2p2 rib for 8 rounds before binding off in pattern. I like more ribbing so it doesn’t stretch out as much.
IMPORTANT!!! For the left mitt…. if you’re not careful you’ll miss the one line instruction on page 3 (its the second sentence in round 23) that tells you how to change the mitt for the left hand. It would be better to place this right by round 4 below the thumb gusset line that it is replacing. Trust me, it’s easy to miss… on my 3rd (& what I thought was my last) set of mitts I ended up with 2 rights & now have to make 2 more lefts … arrfgggg!!!
Since I already have 15 stitches on my holder, I only needed to add 1 extra stitch. I did this with a m1 (k14, kf/b)
When attaching the yarn to start the thumb, leave a long tail. After binding off… Close up the hole with the long tail.
Thumb… I did 2 rounds of knit then added 3 rounds of K2P2 rib to match the other areas.
On three pairs I added ear tuffs of yarn.
I got 4 pairs of mitts & a Cowl from this one skein of yarn.
