Using US#2 thruout in order to get gauge.
Yarn is a very thin DK & knits more like fingering weight & I’m getting gauge listed in pattern with this needle/yarn combination.
I have a 21” head but the 21” size was knitting up way too big, so I went down to the 19” size (it’s still a bit loose on my head).
CO 114 for the smallest size.
Body:
rounds 1-18 once & rounds 1-17 once
Decreases starting at round 6 to end.
This hat is knitting up large. I could have gone down 1 or 2 more needle sizes as it fits very loose. I eliminated a full set of round 1-18 section & it has ample amount of slouch. I didn’t need to add the extra set of 18 rounds to the body as it would have been way to slouchy.
If I knit this again, I would either:
• go down in needle size (US 1 or 0) & possibly eliminate some of the seed stitch OR
• go down in needle size, knit one size larger & remove a full repeat
…. something to make the hat much smaller & hopefully the fit would be better.
Pattern directions are wonderful as well as the design. The sizing is off though. The 19” will fit a 22” head, the 21” will fit a 23” head, the 23” size I can’t even imagine.
Pattern calls for 212 yards of yarn. I started with 200 yards. I eliminated 18 rounds & had only 6 yards of yarn left over. If I would have followed the pattern exactly I would not have had enough yarn.
Yarn: Felt like wool (not as soft as merino but not itchy either). It was listed as DK but knit up more like fingering. The magic happened once it was washed… It fluffed up beautifully & its ohhh so soft. Also very very warm!!
BUT it did grow in size so now it’s extremely too big so it will be gifted to a friends hubby who has s much larger head (fits him perfectly).
This project went from UGG because it ended up way to big for me to COOL because it’s a perfect fit for a friends husband who has trouble finding hats that fit.
