These Jumbo Christmas Stockings I knitted for my 5 yr old son and for my newborn daughter in 1977 with their names on them.Now in 2010 I wanted to knit one for his son my grandson but after 35 yrs I could not find the magazine in my storage of all my knitting books and magazines . Thanks to Raverly and a posting by marvasister, I found picture of same stocking and the source,the magazine exact cover which is McCalls christmas Crafts 1975. Suddenly I remembered the cover but could not find it in my collection. I searched desperately on the Internet and found one on ebay. I bid all day and I purchased the magazine which arrived on Dec 15.2010
I started immediately and knitted one for my Grandson’s First Christmas and also one for my new son in law. So all men in the family had a Reindeer stocking.
The pattern calls for size 5 needles but way back in 1977 I used size 10 needles and the stocking turned to huge Jumbo size stocking.The stocking hung on the fireplace every year,needless to say to the delight of my son who liked the stocking filled. Later when we completed our basement also with a fireplace directly underneath, he said mom knit my stocking long enough to go from upstairs fireplace to down stairs fireplace1 He was sure Santa will keep on filling that long stocking!!
Now in 2010 I completed the same Reindeer stocking for his son. The fair Isle charts in Red Green with white background are very easy to follow. Keep the yarn in small lenghs and the work willl go smooth and fast.It was big enough for the 3 month old to fit in.
As you can see the first Reindeer one has my son’s name Naresh has been hanging every year on the mantel of fireplace,no wonder it looks a little old. The one Next to it has his son’s name Ishwar on it and the 3rd one is bobby my son in law. I am the Proud Grand Ma holding my very first Grandson 2010 Christmas Day!

Every Year since 2011 I have been posting this picture of Mine on Facebook and many People wanted the Pattern. I thought it was copyrighted by McCalls. I have found Two More McCalls Magazines in which this Pattern is published and I bought them in 2015 and 2016 just for Fun. now I have 3 original Magazines !!.
