1/14 After about a week break I am finally finished. I ended up following the pattern as written. I wanted to see how it would turn out and planned to make another if it didn’t once I realized that I forgot to thread a lifeline before doing crown shaping. I think it turned out pretty well and I am definitely planning to make another or a similar lace overlay hat in the future, though I would do the lining next time in a fingering as the sport ended up thicker than I like. I could probably size down to a US 2 for the lace overlay as well since my gauge is looser with lace.
1/7 Finished the 4 repeats of the lace pattern and will be starting the decrease section. Although I wanted to finish this today, I’m going to hold off while I decide whether to do the full 18 decrease rows or fewer. It seems my lace gauge may be larger than the pattern, but gauge is only given for stockinette and I know that I knit lace more loosely than SS. I would like the lace to open up a bit more and I think I’ll need to do fewer rows in the decrease section to get the proper height for the lace section…
1/6 So this is a bit of an experiment. I was originally planning on purchasing the Spud & Chloe Fine to make this hat, but opted instead to give it a go with KP Comfy Sport and Fingering. I want a solid band and didn’t see the point in stranding two of the same color (all of the work, none of the pretty!) so, instead I’m opting to make the band out of sport weight, thanks to this project which was done with Comfy Sport on US 2’s with what appears to be a c/o of 125 sts, which is one stitch short of perfect and looks about like I’d like my band to look. I am twisting my knit stitches in the rib to get a look that is similar to the look of the original ribbing for this pattern.
Lining knit with sport weight yarn on size US 6 needles, increasing to only 94 stitches to get the right circumference.
