Notes

After trying on one of the berets at the yarn shop, I decided it was about time I knit my own. The Orkney Angora seemed ideal - warm and soft - and Ysolda Teague’s pattern seemed simple enough and yet with enough detail to keep it interesting.

Saturday, Oct 11 - after looking for some double-pointed needles to do the icord, I started in magic loop and then switched to a 16” circular needle. The first 20 rows went by fairly quickly.

Saturday, Oct 17 - it’s so quick! I worked on this a few nights of week and finishedthe body of the beret today, a week later. Only the brim left.

Sunday, Oct 18 - I find it fits more like a cloche and less like a beret, at least pre-blocking. Luckily, cloches fit me well so no complaints. I used Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind off and despite the border looking very lose, the hat fits well. I would do it again but perhaps change the border to a 2x2 ribbing.
