Notes

I loved this pattern ever since I first saw Galina’s sample. The cables are interesting - a double helix with seed stitch inside one loop and twisted rib inside the other, and the reverse stockinette is one of my favorite looks, especially for a variegated yarn. The sleeves look belled, although they are actually straight and wide to the ruffle.

This is not mindless conversation knitting. I have to consult the pattern every row, but a little highlighter tape and a good light and I’m rolling.

Mods:

  • bound off shoulders in pattern, then seamed.
  • long sleeves
  • did not slip the 1st stitch after the ruffle hem

My row numbers for decreases and increases are not the same as the pattern, due to testing adjustment. Decreased on rows 11, 23, 35, 3, 15, 27, 37
Increased on rows 1, 15, 29, 43
Start underarm bind-off row 5 after 3 full pattern repeats. 19 inches unblocked from underarm to bottom of hem.
- 38 grams left from second skein after back.

Right Front - start buttonholes on row 29 of 2nd repeat, then every 16th row: 1, 17, 33, 5, 21 then 37. No buttonhole on neckband, so the top buttonhole is right at the top.

Sleeve - started with 68 stitches (L). 125 rows, then cuff. For the 2nd sleeve, after the cap, I turned the sleeve inside out and knit the rest - so much easier than purling the whole thing. Alternated nearly the entire sleeve, which is a huge PITA, but my yarn was wildly variegated.

Neckband - 10 grams yarn used. Pattern has since added a row, so more will be needed. Would not be a bad idea to make the neckband longer.

Unblocked measurements: 36 bust, 19 side seam, 18 sleeve.

Yarn Requirements: I did longer sleeves than the pattern, which had 11 inches prior to the ruffled cuff. I had to break into the 6th skein of yarn (actually I bought someone’s leftovers, which worked out great). If you make a bigger size, or longer sleeves (mine are 18 inches including the ruffle) then you will need more yarn.

Tutorial for seaming reverse stockinette to reverse stockinette: here (sew the frown on one side to the smile on the other). See the close-up pic of how nice it looks.

Gauge for 4” - 20 sts and 32 rows – reverse stockinette, 26 sts and 32 rows – cable pattern
