Notes

Even though I have 4 fingering-weight sweaters currently on my needles, I could not say no to this cutie.

  • easier to do lace sleeves 2-at-a-time, in my opinion at the beginning, then switch when they get too long.
  • block your lace after 6 repeats to see if you need to keep knitting. If you take the stockinette gauge you will end up with overly-long sleeves.
  • I had calculated 137 stitches at 2 stitches for 3 rows = 205 rows, which gave me over 27 inches. I ended up ripping back to 6 repeats to get 25 inches.
  • picked up fewer stitches at the neck (118) to be a bit smaller. No bra staps showing here!
  • 68 stripes for the body.
  • at first I did jogless stripes (see references below) until I found I was pulling too tightly at the join. Switched to regular stripes and the join is not really noticable.
  • did 3 needle-bind-off for sleeves, as I didn’t want more of the MC showing, with the graft.
  • for next time - do a CC row at sleeves, then graft together with CC, to break up the stripes.

Yarn Notes: I was away at the cottage when given this opportunity to test, and Indigodragonfly was closed, so I found the green yarn which wouldn’t let me leave the store without it, although it is not “my” colour with the yellow undertones. When Indigodragonfly opened I found the most beautiful gray to go along with it, and this lovely silver. The green is heavier than the other 2.

  • after knitting with the 3 colours I decided that the silver was too dominating, so re-knit with 2
  • the green is substantially heavier than the gray, but that was not an issue in this sweater.

Ended up giving this away. Wrong colours for me.

Green: 121 grams 355 yards
Dark gray: 106 grams 435 yards

80 grams left of green, 14 grams left of gray.

Jogless Stripes: 2 basic techniques - either slip the first stitch on row 2, or knit into the right leg of below stitch on row 2.
