This structurally clever pattern (as all of Anne’s are) starts with knitting the cabled V at the back, then extends over the fronts, adding the stockinette fronts/back/sleeves, then continues in one piece under the underarms, adding small cables at the sides, and increases generated from the mid-back. The pullover version cleverly reduces the front cable while continuing the back increases, thus moving the side cables towards the front. The cardigan version just continues the whole cable pattern down the fronts, and stops the back increases, resulting in a small pleat.
Knit S/M because I wanted less ease. Ended up with about 4 inches ease at bust and 8 at hips.
Mods:
- slightly longer body - about an inch.
- kept using the same needle for the bottom ribbing. -10 rows of hem instead of 20.
- more buttonholes closer together. Did a 3-stitch one-row buttonhole here.
- change front/neck bands to twisted rib - highly recommend this if you are doing the cardi, as the other neckline rolls, and does not work as well with buttons and buttonholes.
Start with Row 31 of chart when joining fronts and backs.
Sleeve-knit 20 rows past 50 st. Approx. 15.5 inches of ribbed sleeve. Note about sleeve decreases - the first sleeve I kept the pattern going, so had always the k1 p1. The second sleeve, after the decrease, I had 3 knit stitches in a row. Kept it like that, which looks better, I think.
35 grams left from 6th skein.
Pattern Gauge: 20 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. My gauge unblocked: 19 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches. Blocked:
I was going to use this yarn for Annamaria’s Raspberry Tart, but this test came along, and wanted to be knit in this yarn.
