Notes

I have a sock knitting project for my big trip, but the night before I find myself casting on these, as the Hope socks yarn is a bit splitty and the needle a bit sharp, and I am afraid I will have to pay more attention to the knitting than I plan to do. Bottom pic was at Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho.

This is wonderful yarn for socks - a nice twist and fairly heavy for fingering socks. 400 yards for 113 grams. I’m following the “if you have ugly yarn, make socks” advice here.

  • Socks took 76 grams (shorter leg).

  • I should have used a seed stitch or some other pattern to break up the variegation. The eye-of-partridge heel flap looks great, compared to the rest.

  • these would be too loose for me. Fewer stitches, or go down a needle size, if I was using this yarn for me.

  • using the pattern from Vanilla Latte socks but knitting these toe-up using the Jo Torr pattern.

  • figure 8 cast-on 12 stitches each side. Knit 1 row then kfb increases every second row to 28 each side. Knit 1 row then pattern.

Used the calculator here to determine when to start the gusset increases.
