I took the trellis stitch pattern and made it into a dress…. I meant to debut this at our rehearsal dinner, but, it turned out we were blessed with an 80 degree night in late September at New Hampshire! Well, we had the most beautiful weather one could hope for on our wedding the next day, so I am not about to complain about this minor adjustment to the plan…. :-)
V’s mom and I bought these beautiful buttons from a craft fair at Worcester a year ago, and then I bought the yarn to match the buttons. I think they enhanced the dress a lot.
Top:
- Cast on 68 sts
- Garter stitch for 8 rows
- Follow trellis stitch pattern
- Increase 1 st on each end at every 8th row until row 32
- Increase 1 st on each end at the 16th row
- Work another 15 rows
Sleeve shaping:
- 1 & 2: reduce 4 stitch at the beginning of each row.
- 3 & 4: reduce 3 STs at the beginning of each row
- 5 ~ 16: K2T at the beginning of each row
- Knit in pattern for 23 rows
- At the 24th row, knit 9 stitches, bind off the middle stitches until 9 stitches remain on the left shoulder, knit the remaining sts.
- Turn over, K2T at the end of every odd number row until 6 sts remain, bind off.
- on the right shoulder, pick up the stitch, knit to the neck edge and then K2T, every odd end rows
Skirt:
Pick up 68 stitches, work trellis pattern.
Increase at the end of every 12th row until row 60th.
Increase at the end of every 10th row until row 120
knit until desired length, then Garter stitch for 12 rows
I picked up the stitches around the sleeve and did 5 rows of Garter stitch to make the edge look clean
Then I picked up the stitches around the neck and worked 16 rounds of Garter stitch to make it “stand up”
