Notes

It’s been quite a while that I’ve been wanting to make this square. Cuz it’s beautiful and because Julieanny so graciously named it after me.
tulip What an honor.

I need to try some colors out with this Universal Worsted Yarn for a future crochet project, and thought this pattern a good one to play with. I need the lift, comfort and solace that only playing with colors and working with yarn can do right now. And what a joy and comfort and diversion this square was. As per the usual with Julieanny’s patterns, it’s well written and easy to understand. Plenty of spots for color changes. My especially favorite spot was a color change between rows 6 & 7. That peek of turquoise. Makes my heart happy.

Pretty sure the Pale Blue (row 10) will be a color I pull from this palette. It looks good with the colors close to it, but too bright (pale?) overall. I could add another bright (pale?) color to the palette to balance it out? Hmmmm. I’d rather replace with a blue that’s just a bit deeper I think? Pondering….

I’m liking the yarn. Colors really are great. (Are they similar to Vannas or is it just me?) It’s nice to work with. Super squishy, but not too smooth or slippery, nor too bulky. I used this yarn in a knit project and really liked it…so no surprises here. First used my 4mm hook. At bit too dense for this project. Then I went to a 4.5mm. I’m a tight hooker. Always have been, always will be. I imagine I could even go up another size for more drape, but I liked the sturdiness of the square for an afghan with the 4.5 hook.

I packed 10 colors in. I could have added one more for row 2 (maybe a salmon-y pink? Or another yellow? Just didn’t see the ‘right one’ in this yarn line.), but I AM very happy with this square. Yes. Tons of ends. But worth the weaving in.

Color order:
Lavender
Dijon
Eggplant
Cranberry
turquoise
Olive
Sapphire
Navy
pale blue (might pull from palette?)
Periwinkle
And Eggplant…again

Not knowing what I will do with this square, I’m ending as per pattern with the dc row. If I knew it was going in an afghan I would add a row of sc. I like a sc row for joining. But that’s just how I roll.
And I could squeeze another color in. :)
