Notes

I just love when a project doesn’t end up like I first imagined. At all. Originally these squares were going to have a beachy look. Joined in a white or light gray.
But the dark brown rustic look of the Vanna’s Choice to join the squares is perfect. Possibly even better than the white would have ever been.

And the border pattern. Oh my. It will make even the most simple pattern a work of art I think. In fact. It might be even more of a stand out on a simpler afghan. I would highly recommend anyone giving it a try.

Making a baby Afghan from the squares made (in 2012!) during the BAWL in the Vannas Choice Fan Club Group. I found them while cleaning out a closet in the spare room. How did I ever forget about these beautiful squares????

For info on individual square paterns look under the tab on my project page labeled bawl

Using join from a tutorial by Mugginsquilts. Awesome tutorial I totally recommend. Lots of photos and info. Joining in VC Barley color.

Border Notes-
Base row as per pattern.
Row 1 as per pattern.
Row 2 added 1 ch on either side of sc (or everything was too tight for me).
Row 3 the bpdc was turned into a bpdc2tog to make the row a little chunkier and add a little stretch to the row.
Row 4 as per pattern.
Row 5 as per pattern.

Yarn chicken fail on row 9. Lost by just a yard or so. And I really want to use this blue color here. :/

I’m thinking I have a fix. Gonna give it a go.

Row 9 to save yarn… Corners as per pattern. But alternated 3dc and dc ch1 dc along the edges. Worked out great.

Finished the rest of the border rows as per pattern except for the last row. I went with just a plain sc finish. The last row in the pattern is lovely. Just a little more ‘girly ‘ than I wanted for thus project.
The border really made the afghan. Wow. What a beautiful finish. Love it. Loved crocheting it.
