Love the vintage look of this baby blanket, so I’m making it for my niece’s baby due in March. My niece has become a very traditional girl in the last few years, and more so after her marriage to an even more traditional (and sweetheart of a) guy. She has always liked vintage and things antique (as do most of our family), so I think she will really like this blanket for her first child. :) Ivory because she won’t be finding out what sex this baby is before he/she comes into the world, and maybe she can use it for a christening…
I have been doing a lot of car traveling lately, taking mom to appointments and going with my husband every other week to get my grandaughter in PA. And at the end of this month there is a car ride that should be about 7hrs each way in FL…this is the perfect project for that.
Final notes:
9 skeins
47” wide by 52” long
Work ch3’s a little looser so they are easy to crochet into.
Border
I sc around the blanket to make a nice beginning for my final edge treatment. Then there are 3 rows of a ‘granny type’ pattern for edge: Basically 3dc into one stitch, skip 2 stitches, 3dc in next, across the blanket. Shell edge is 6 dc in granny space, then a slip stitch in next space, repeat. Corner is “3 dc, ch1, 4dc, ch1, 3dc”. I think this corner is nice and lays flat. I like it better than my last granny border ‘corner’…it’s a keeper.

Chained 134. Pattern is for a repeat of 16 plus 6, so I have 8 repeats for an afghan that is 36” wide before the border. I’m getting 9 1/2 rows per skien. Pattern is 6 row repeat, so I’m figuring I need 9ish skiens depending on how much of a border I put on this afghan. I do love me a nice border. :)

Working on this while traveling to and thru Florida. Have 6 repeats done. Looks great. I have to make sure to check my rows as I go along. Easy to get distracted I find

One more row left on the border.

Terrible terrible ME. Finally woven in the ends after finishing the crochet November 15, 2015. Washed. Gently smooshed into place to block and dry. Beautiful pattern. Love the finished project. Gifted at baby shower Jan 31. The Mommy to be loved it. :)
UPDATE: Baby Theodore Joseph Heffernan was born March 12. A healthy handsome 8lb 11oz sweet tempered always hungry little boy.
