This “Egyptian #1” hat from the book, 45 Fine & Fanciful Hats to Knit, by Anna Zilboorg has a smaller diameter crown than the hats described in the book.

I used a size US 6 needle instead of the recommended size US 7.The hat fits on a 10 inch diameter circle for blocking instead of 11 inch as noted in the book.

The hat fits my medium/large head snugly.

I need for the hat to be warm and this is a good gauge for the particular yarn. The hat’s fit is somewhere between the the “Toque” described in the book, and the Egyptian hat. I am happy with it.

This hat knits up quickly. Selecting colors can take a little time. There were a couple of colors from my stash that I decided to take out after I had knitted a row or two.

This hat elicits more compliments than most hand knits that I wear.
