Notes

SEE MY NOTES! It’s not that it’s difficult stitches, it’s that it assumes you are sitting there watching the designer do it, so all the instructions are vague.

Rnd 1: you will start off with a series of chains and triples that will create what looks like a long chain with humps made from the ch 5’s, that will double back on itself, with dc stitches, to form a center consisting of 3 circles, with 1 group of 5ch loops, over each. I had to rip 6 times to get the center hole a little bigger, and both ends kind of pointing off, smaller than the middle.

RND 2: (see pic 3) I had trouble understanding the sequences, but in short you want to have 4 12ch loops in each of the corner 5ch loops, so that is 8 12ch loops around each corner(both sides), and the middle 5ch loops, opposite each other, will only have 2 12ch loops. In all, there are 20 12ch loops. (series of ch 12 loops that are put into each of the ch 5 loops, starting with the first corner: 4, 2, 4, 4, 2, 4) Don’t make a mistake and stitch into the center, just the ch5 loops. (see drawn pic - coming soon)

RND 4: do not stop in the middle of this rnd. There is an optical illusion brought on by the ch 1 that makes it hard to tell what you are seeing. There are nine 15ch loops on each side, and each end has three 15 ch loops in them = (24) 15ch loops

Rnd 5: 24 loops (24 is now the number you will finish all rnds with)

Rnd 6: I had bad cupping, and ripped it out. I had did the 5ch, trp, into the first loop, which was REALLY the sc loop, not the beginning of the 5ch group. I went back and went up the ch to the real first ch, and not into the sc loop - that gave me an extra ch that was not included in the loop and I added 1 ch after the ch5/tr loop was complete. that gave me an extra st on both ends, and now it lays flat.

RND 8: I had to increase my ch 6 to a ch8 to prevent cupping.

RND 9: You do a 15 ch and repeat 3x, that means there are _4_ 15 ch loops, not 3, in each space.

RND 10: I finished the first half of the instructions and had 5 petals, but then it stared talking about ch 5 and 2 dc between the trpls. The only problem I had here was I couldn’t imagine the 2dc between the petals. The critical info that was left out was that you put them at the TOP of the loop, between the 2 trpl of each petal.
SEE PIC 4 shows how I make sure the 5 petals are laying correctly and will be inserting the hook to join them together with a slip st, where you see the hook pointing. Then I will immediately make the 5ch that I will anchor between the 2 sides of the petal, starting the 2dc, picot, 2dc sequence, and ending with another ch 5 to the base of the petal. Then slip stitch into the bottom of the next petal and start the same sequence. Read next note before proceeding.

THE FLOWER ROW: I had 11 flowers made when I noticed that the directions for 2sc between the flowers (in the loops) was causing my doily to cinch in and lose circumference. In Pic 5 you can see the 2sc between the flowers in the loops, and the 15ch loops in the previous row all squeezed together. To the left of the flowers, you see how much space it addes when I changed it to (3sc, ch1) in each loop, which is what I did. The flowers were no longer on top each other and had their own space.

PIC 6: I ironed my doily from the wrong side with start to try to get it to be the right size. But after adding the few st to get more space between each flower, decided I WOULD go ahead and do some blocking, to maximize my spacing. I needed to get the most out of my rim to give each flower enough space, so I pinned it onto a piece of styrofoam, using RUST RESISTANT QUILTING PINS, and sprayed it with Aleene’s Stiffen Quik. I sprayed each flower as I came to it, then straightened the petals and resprayed any area that had gotten missed in the first spraying. In my blocking pic, if you look on the far left, you can see the first and last flower I sprayed, and the first ones are lighter because they have started drying, while the ones above them are just freshly sprayed.
