Crochet hook #7 and Prym Cro-tat hook, size 1.00mm.

There are several books with the same title, “Learn to Cro-tat”m (2016). 2 things I have to say about that, it is the book from sometime around 2016 and has a shawl, this mandala and a necklace on the cover - 3 patterns. The second thing is, this is NOT a learn how to book. While there is a pic tutorial in the book, you actually need to watch cro-tat videos on youtube, to see how the thread is wrapped and worked.

NOTES:
To apply the rings to the doily, hold doily facing your chest and work on the top edge of it, adding ds to the hook, then make the join by moving thread to the top right of hook and pulling thru from the back, then finish remaining ds, close ring. The chains should flow evenly with not twisting from the base of the ring, to add the next ring, and join, etc. see video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFp_9SYpwfg&t=274s

rnd 3: the repeat for the rings should be 6 join 6, not 5 join 6.

rnd 4: Do not stretch the chain spc to make the 3 clusters, or the core thread will show thru.

rnd 14: the repeat directions are for the next 2 ch 3 spaces, there are not 3 of the chain 3 spaces, just 2.

rnd 17: I fin the rnd with a small chain, which was the same as the beginning, and it SHOULD have been the large chain. I went over my chains repeatedly, and they all fell correctly as small, large, small, large. After nearly an hour, I saw something that was nearly invisible, you would never think it would not be easy to see. I had missed a short chain and went right to the next ring, and therefore, I missed a chain space, and came out on the wrong sequence. If your count is off, look for 2 picots hiding together, that would cause you to lose a chain.

Rnd 18: Be sure your begining chain has 3(not 4) sc, ch 3, 3 sc - this note is hard to grasp, just look at the figures and make sure they are balanced on both ends of a repeat.

Rnd 20: Core thread showed thru so I did 3sc, ch3, 3sc) in each chain space. I had forgotten there was a single crochet space at the beginning and end of each set of 5 rings, and was confused where to put my begining stitch and where the next single crochet space was. For the picot 5ch half dbl in 5th chn from hook, it was really hard on my hands and I didn’t think it looked any better than just slip stitching in the 5 ch from hook, so that’s what I did. Check each set of chains in the 5 ring sections before you move on to the next, incase you made a sloppy picot anywhere.

It didn’t really take that long to make, but I would spend days in between rows, deciding which color should come next… I really enjoyed the thinking process. Also had some time off on otherprojects. It wasn’t at all hard, IF YOU KNOW HOW TO CRO-TAT (youtube, baby)
