First things first:

NO, we don’t let the baby smoke a pipe. It’s a prop pipe from an old costume.

A few notes:

I blocked this aggressively to get a little more length. If I was going to reknit, I would (a) swatch and (b) add a few more rows between the decrease rounds.

The pattern is written for an adult sized hat, I just knit it at a tighter gauge to make it smaller. Easy peasy.

It’s a very fiddly knit, but SUPER CUTE. Thus, worth it.

Ear flap changes:

• Pick up the stitches as you did for the front and back flap, and work the directions as written but in st st in the round. You’ll be doubling the stitch count, so remember to do the decreases on both sides of the flap.
• when you have 5 sts remaining on each needle: k1, CDD, k1 repeat. Then, k2tog around (to 3 sts) and work icord.
