Notes

I was spot-on with gauge when I did the swatch, but I ran out of yarn on the last row. So, I ripped back and decided to make the last row the bind-off row. I still ran out of yarn about 50 stitches from the end. I had some similarly colored/weighted yarn in my stash so I used that to finish the piece off. It’s a cotton yarn, though, so we’ll see what happens during blocking. If it’s totally off because of the fiber differences, I’ll rip back and use a smaller needle for the ruffle border (as suggested by the designer).

I suspect that the bead part is where my gauge loosened up. This shawl has placed beads so I think that the combination of the added weight of the whole shawl and the awkwardness of placing the beads made the border more loose than it otherwise would be and, thus, resulted in me running out of yarn.

I’m really glad I didn’t actually snip off the gauge swatch - the pattern calls for doing the swatch from the inside of the ball but then starting from the outside, so I just left it attached and used all of it up.

Update - the cotton I used for the last segment for bind off worked just fine!
